Thanks Mike.
That worked.

I reset the LHS to the # it was before, 47.

I see this in the event log:

From the logs I guess this means that QuickFix is queuing up messages coming from FINRA and that once all pending messages are queued it will start receiving messages from SEQNUM 1 and then process the queued.
I wonder why it is receiving SequenceReset messages?

You only want to reset to 1 for the incoming number (the one on the right hand side of the seqnums file).

If you reset your outgoing number to 1, you're going to be too low when sending your Logon, and the other side is going to drop you until you burn through enough seqnums to get back to the right number.

Receiving a seqnum that is too high is a recoverable condition (i.e. ResendRequest).   Receiving a seqnum that is too low is fatal.
