Hi Grant,
New year, new bug fix merged? 😊
Doing some new FIX work at the moment and would be good to finally upgrade from version 1.5.

Thanks,
Jann

Dude I just started working on fixes for the next one, give me some time 😀

547 and 526 are next in my queue. No one pays for QF/n, so I have to kind of find the time around the margins of my other projects.

Thanks for merging the dispose fix. Could you also include https://github.com/connamara/quickfixn/pull/547 <https://github.com/connamara/quickfixn/pull/547%20> in the 1.9.1 release?

Thanks,

Jann, I'll make some time to look into those next week.

Feel free to harass me if I don't.

Grant,
I really appreciate your work on this. I’m not asking for new features, it’s just that some of the PRs on github address issues that make quickfix/n unusable in that person’s scenario and requires them to build their own fork. For example the fix I submitted: https://github.com/connamara/quickfixn/pull/547 . It has happened at my company several times now that a developer accidentally upgraded quickfix/n from version 1.5 (which works) to 1.8 which breaks our execution service.
There are others; for example:
https://github.com/connamara/quickfixn/pull/526
This one also seems reasonable: https://github.com/connamara/quickfixn/pull/505 - I ran into this when debugging my problem.

I’m happy to help out with preparing a fix release if required.

Thanks,
Jann

Jann, I'm always trying to cut the backlog down.

And QF/n 2.0 is always in the back of my mind. I think the current codebase could use a lot of pruning and renovation. I don't want to say plans are concrete, because they're not, but in the next 3-6 months I hope to find the time to begin a pre-2.0 fork and make it public. When it matures and the interface stabilizes, it would become 2.0.

There are some more improvements to the current codebase that I want to implement before that happens, though. (My next goal: implement a C#-based DD-validation-and-codegen tool, so we can get rid of Ruby.)

That’s great news! Any indication on when some of the fixes from here: https://github.com/connamara/quickfixn/pulls will be integrated into a 2.0 release?

Thanks,
Jann

I'm happy to announce the long-overdue release of QuickFIX/n v1.9.0!

Changes of note in this release:

  * Now conforms to .NET Standard 2.0. (Anyone want to try it out on Mono?)
  * Version-specific message definitions are now separated into their own dlls. Instead of one giant dll, you now need 2 (or more) smaller dlls:

     *   the core (QuickFix.dll)
     *   the messages for only the version(s) that you’re using (e.g. QuickFix.FIX44.dll, QuickFix.FIX50SP1.dll, etc).

  * Hey, Europeans! Character encoding is now iso-8859-1 (aka latin1), bringing us in line with QuickFIX/J. Finally, no more message rejects due to umlauts!
  *   New!  Built-in tunnel support
  * Fixed some DD parsing issues
  * Fixed some tricky FIX50 ambiguity issues (hopefully once and for all)
  * As always, a number of other bug fixes and improvements

This build's source is tagged "v1.9.0" in Github.

I'm excited for everyone to try it out and let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
