It all depends on your traffic but we wanted the fastest disks available (NVMe) on AWS and those were only made available with large instances.

Francis - Thanks for the reply.

I guess I should have been more specific..

I was wondering if there were any best practices around how to provision the storage for the message and session logs so I could advise my infrastructure guys accordingly. 
I guess I am focused on that since it is the state full part of the application. The goal is to have the system not miss messages, so if a failure scenario where an instance died, I would want the new one to pick up where the other one left off.

A full Windows Server 2016 instance seems kind of heavy weight for a small initiator windows service, but perhaps I could be prematurely optimizing around cost.
I was wondering if other people were leveraging smaller containers and .NET Core to build their systems.
When I check out the project I see that the QuickFix.Net library currently builds to .Net core, but there has not been an official release for that platform.

I'm not sure that's what you mean but we have Windows Server 2016 instances running on AWS and it's very fast and reliable.
