{{Quickfixn}} Performance sending messages

What sort of performance would you expect to get sending flood messages?

I have code that I've timed at about 6000 cycles per second.  However, when I call Session.SentToTarget(MyMessage, SessionID) then this drops to around 20 cycles per second.  Surely sending messages (Execution Report Cancellations in this case) should be faster than this?
